Center for Food Safety master’s student Kaylan Hayman has been awarded the Dr. Manjeet S. Chinnan Graduate Student Support Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to Griffin-based food science students to use toward participation in national or international professional scientific meetings, seminars and workshops.

Hayman said she plans to use her $800 scholarship toward airfare and housing when she attends the International Association for Food Protection’s Annual Meeting which will be held in Arizona later this year. During the event, Hayman will present her research on the survival of pathogenic E. coli in raw cake batter.

Haylan thanked those who have supported her in her studies, saying, “I'd like to express my sincere thanks for my advisors, Dr. Govindaraj Dev Kumar and Dr. Abhinav Mishra for encouraging me to apply for this award and for their mentorship throughout the course of my work. I'd also like to thank Dr. Manjeet Chinnan for instituting this scholarship. I know I speak on behalf of all graduate students when I say how much I appreciate the generosity of donors like him who have taken the time to invest in our success.”
