Foodborne illnesses affect more than 600 million people each year worldwide. In 2018, the U.N. General Assembly established June 7 as World Food Safety Day to bring awareness of foodborne risks and “to celebrate the myriad benefits of safe food.”

The University of Georgia Center for Food Safety plays an important role in food safety for all humans no matter where they reside. Through global leadership, pathway building, examining the international spread of pathogens, and participating in initiatives involving some of the world's foremost food safety regulators, the CFS team is making a difference that can be felt across the world.
